THAT is Idyllwild, CA.
THAT is 39 square miles of wildfire that is only 15 percent contained.
THAT is where my parents live. And THAT picture was taken from their neighbors front yard.
My parents and their two dogs, are safe and have finally decided to listen to the instincts of those two smart canines, and have evacuated. Forget me, their reasonable daughter, and my two wise older brothers... but the dogs get credit for them finally leaving. Whatever makes them go, I suppose.
THAT is my daughter.
THAT is 3 days of 102+ temperature.
THAT is where my heart lives. And THAT picture was taken after finding out she had pneumonia. Even when the doctor (who is not our normal doctor) told her in the nicest way that she was wrong for thinking she was that ill. No matter what she told him about how she was feeling, he wouldn't listen to her. So I simply suggested that he give an extra hard listen to her lungs. We've been through this before. With a shrug, and dare I say, slight eye roll, he agreed to an X-ray. Forty-five minutes later (yes, it took that long), he walked in with eyes toward the ground and said, "Looks like she knows that she's talking about." She hates how people underestimate how smart she is. And, by the way, she's pretty damn smart.
THAT is a wineglass.
THAT is 3 seconds from being in my hand.
THAT is patiently waiting for me. And THAT drink will be drunk as soon as I finish this blog post.
